Can we increase velocity of driven pulley by using belt drives?

Yes we can! In a belt drive, if the diameter of the driven pulley is smaller than the diameter of driving pulley, there will be an increase in velocity in the driven pulley.

    In such cases,
    N2/N1 = D/d = Velocity Ratio

N1 → Speed of the driving pulley in rpm
N2 → Speed of the driven pulley in rpm
D → Diameter of the larger (driving) pulley in m
d → Diameter of the smaller (driven) pulley in m
