What metal is used to manufacture aircraft wings? Is it aluminium?

At the beginning, airplanes had wings made of wood.

As time passed, wings made of steel were used. Though steel wings were rigid, they produced a lot of turbulence.

Today, the wings of several common airplanes are made of aluminium (with a skin of fabric or other composite material).

Some special planes (like military aircraft) use wings made of carbon composite panels.
