I. For Non-registered users:

1. What is mechteacher.com? What can I do here?

Mechteacher.com is a site that offers awesome mechanical engineering articles and topics. Here, at mechteacher.com, you can read articles, submit your article, post comments and discuss any mechanical engineering topic in our forums. You can also use the search box (found at the top right corner of every page) to search for mechanical engineering articles.

2. What is a forum? What can I do with it?

A forum is an online discussion board where you can discuss any topic. Here, at mechteacher.com, you can discuss any mechanical engineering topic of your choice. Several forums are available for that purpose. For a list of forums at mechteacher.com, click here.

3. Should I have an account to post my topic in the forums of mechteacher.com?

Yes. You need an account to post your topic.

4. How do I create an account?

Click here to register and create your account.

5. How do I verify my account?

Once you register at mechteacher.com, an email will be sent to your email ID. You have to click the verification link in your email, to verify and activate your account. Please note that you have to verify your account in order to successfully login.

1. How do I login?

To login, use the login form (found on the right sidebar) in this page.

2. What is a topic?

A topic is a question that you wish to ask at mechteacher.com. By posting a topic, you can earn 3 points. If you want to know how to post a topic click here.

3. What is a reply?

A reply is an answer or a response to a topic. By posting a reply, you can earn 3 points. To know how to post a reply, click here.

4. How do I post a topic or a question?

Method 1 – Using ‘New Topic’ Link:

  1. Click the ‘New Topic’ link (found at the top toolbar of every page if you are logged in).
  2. The ‘Create New Topic’ page appears.
  3. At first, you will find the rules section. Read the rules.
  4. After the rules section, you will find three fields – Topic title, topic description and topic tags.
  5. In the topic title field, type the title of your topic.
  6. In the topic description field, describe your topic or question. Formatting can be done by using formatting buttons. Images can be uploaded using the ‘Upload an Image’ link.
  7. In the topic tags field, give the keyword(s) of your topic. Multiple keywords should be seperated by commas.
  8. After the topic tags field, you will find a Forum drop-down menu.
  9. Choose the forum into which your topic is to be posted.
  10. Once you have done all these, check the box that says ‘Notify me of follow-up replies via email’ .
  11. Click the submit button.
  12. If any other user replies to your topic, you will be notified via email.

Method 2 – Using ‘List of Forums’ Link:

  1. Use the ‘List of Forums’ link (found at the top toolbar of every page if you are logged in) to navigate to the respective forum where you wish to post your topic.
  2. Once you go to the required forum, you will find two sections – latest topics and create new topic.
  3. Go to the ‘create new topic’ section by scrolling down.
  4. The section will have a rules box and three fields – Topic title, topic description and topic tags.
  5. In the topic title field, type the title of your topic.
  6. In the topic description field, describe your topic or question. Formatting can be done by using formatting buttons. Images can be uploaded using the ‘Upload an Image’ link.
  7. In the topic tags field, give the keyword(s) of your topic. Multiple keywords should be seperated by commas.
  8. Once you have done all these, check the box that says ‘Notify me of follow-up replies via email’ and click the submit button.
  9. Your topic will be posted.
  10. If any other user replies to your topic, you will be notified via email.

Note: Follow the topic posting rules. Do not include any affiliate links or unwanted informational announcements in your topic. If you do that, your topic will be marked as spam and moved to spam folder.

5. How do I post a reply?

  1. Navigate to the topic for which you need to post your reply.
  2. Below the last post in the topic, you will find ‘Reply To: Topic’ section.
  3. Enter your reply in the reply field. Formatting can be done by using the formatting buttons. Images can be uploaded using the ‘Upload an Image’ link.
  4. Apply suitable keywords as tags.
  5. Check ‘Notify me of follow-up replies via email’ and click ‘Submit’ Button.
  6. Your reply will be posted.
  7. If any other user posts a reply to the topic, you will be notified via email.

Note: Follow the reply posting rules. Do not include any affiliate links or unwanted informational announcements in your reply. If you do that, your reply will be marked as spam and moved to spam folder.

6. What do you mean by ‘Notify me of follow-up replies via email’ checkbox?

‘Notify me of follow-up replies via email’ is a check box found at the bottom of  ‘Create new topic’ or ‘Create new reply’ sections. If it is checked in a topic, you will be subscribed to that topic. Whenever users post new replies to your subscribed topics, you will be notified via email.

7. What are favorite topics?

Favorite topics are topics that you like the most. If you find a forum topic interesting and useful, you can favorite it.

8. How do I add a topic to my favorites?

Click on the ‘Favorite’ link at the top grey area of a topic to favorite it.

9. How do I remove a topic from my favorites?

Click on the ‘Favorited’ Link at the top grey area of a favorited topic to remove it from your favorites list.

10. What are subscribed topics?

Subscribed topics are topics to which you wish to receive email notifications whenever a new reply is posted.

11. How do I subscribe to a topic?

Click the ‘Subcribe’ link at the top gray area of a topic to subscribe to it.

12. How do I unsubscribe to a topic?

Click the ‘unsubscribe’ button at the top gray area of a subscribed topic to unsubscribe to it.

13. I have subscribed and favorited many topics. How can I manage them?

You can access and manage all your subscribed and favorited topics in your profile.

14. How do I set my avatar (profile picture)?

  1. Go to gravatar.com
  2. Look for the ‘Enter your e-mail to get started’ form.
  3. Type the same email that you used to create your account at mechteacher.com
  4. Click get your gravatar.
  5. You will get a confirmation e-mail.
  6. Follow the instructions in your e-mail to access your gravatar account.
  7. In your gravatar profile, fill your instructions and upload a suitable avatar image of yourselves.
  8. That is it! You have successfully set your avatar here at mechteacher.com
  9. Your gravatar profile picture is global. So, wherever you use your email id in gravatar enabled websites, your profile picture will be associated with your email ID.

15. Are my forum topics and replies public?

Yes. Anybody can see your forum topics and replies.

16. Can I delete a topic or a reply that I posted?

You can request us to delete your topic or reply using the form in contact us page. Please note that depending on the number of requests we receive, it might take up to a week for us to delete your topic or reply.

17. Can I delete my account?

No. This is because if you delete your account, all your topics and replies will be affected. This will affect the stability of the entire website. However, you can clear all your personal information (except email which is never made public)  by editing your profile. You can also remove your profile picture from your gravatar.com account.

18. I just modified my topic. When I logout of my account I cannot see the modification. Why?

We use caching to keep the site fast. When you modify your topic, it takes some time for your topic to be updated in our cache. Once your topic is updated in our cache, the updated version will be displayed. You don’t have to worry about it :)

19. How many topics and replies can I post?

You can post any number of topics and replies as long as you abide by the terms of service of mechteacher.com.

20. Do you delete my topics and replies?

In general, we don’t delete a genuine topic or a reply. However, if we find a topic or a reply violating our terms of service, we immediately remove it without any further notice to the user who posted it. Also, if we find a user to be continuously spamming, we will remove the user without any further notice.

21. I see a spam topic. What do I do?

We are taking continuous efforts to make our forums free of spam. If you find a topic or a reply to be a spam, please inform us using the contact us page. The spam topic or reply will be removed once we verify it.

22. How do I embed a flickr image or a youtube video in my topic or reply?

Just copy and paste the embed code in the flickr.com photo page or youtube.com video page in the text tab section of your topic or reply.

23. How do I add an image to a topic or a reply?

You can add your own images by using the ‘Upload an Image’ link in the topic or reply form. Once your image is uploaded, its html code will be inserted to your topic or reply. Your image will be visible once you hit the submit button.

Note: Only upload images that you own or images for which you have necessary rights. Do not infringe the copyrights of third parties.
